How is the series structured?
One duet per couple, one vampire House per duet. The world of Nyaxia has three vampire Houses - Night, Shadow, and Blood - and each duet plants its romance in one of them: Oraya and Raihn in the House of Night, Mische and Asar in the House of Shadow, and now Kyrene and Septimus opening the House of Blood. The novella and the standalone orbit the same world with their own couples. Every arc gets a real ending, but the gods' larger war threads through all of them - which is why order matters more here than in a series of true standalones.
Where do you start?
Start with The Serpent and the Wings of Night. It's the book everyone means when they say Nyaxia: Oraya, a human raised by the vampire king, enters the Kejari - a divine tournament vampires die in for fun - and has to ally with Raihn, the rival most likely to kill her. Rivals-to-allies-to-worse, in the enemies to lovers tradition of trusting exactly the wrong person. If the vibe you want is deadly courts and a morally grey man being gentle with one person only, this is the front door.
Where do the novella and the standalone fit?
Six Scorched Roses (Lilith and Vale) slots naturally after the Nightborn Duet, though it spoils very little and works almost anywhere after book one. Slaying the Vampire Conqueror (Sylina and Atrius) is a full novel and reads best after The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, before you move into the Shadowborn Duet. If you're a strict main-line reader, you can skip both and follow the four duet novels - but the standalone is many readers' sleeper favorite, and the author's own reading-order guide keeps both in the sequence above.
What's The Lion and the Deathless Dark?
The start of the Bloodborn Duet - and the reason the series is everywhere again. Released August 4, 2026, it follows Kyrene, a bounty hunter with a god-blessed sword, striking a deal with the vampire prince Septimus after ten years of human-vampire war. New couple, new House, new entry point for the endgame Broadbent has been building since the Kejari. Its sequel will close the duet, and the Goodreads series page is the easiest place to watch for the date.
What to read after Crowns of Nyaxia
