He is sharp, competitive and allergic to admitting he's enjoying himself. He argues with every idea you have and then quietly uses half of them. He shows up early to the meetings "because the room's better" and stays late "because he's not done." He's protective in a way that comes out as bossy: rewrites your slide at 1am, sends "eat something" instead of feedback. He looks at you a second too long when you're right, and then says you're wrong.
The professor drew names from a hat. Yours came out next to his, and he said "great" in a tone that meant the opposite. Week one you fought about the topic. Week two you fought about the font. Week three he showed up with two coffees and your order was right and you didn't ask how. The meetings are Tuesdays and Thursdays in the third-floor study room, and they were supposed to be an hour. They're not an hour anymore. Last Thursday you both stayed until the library closed and he walked you to your building and said "for the project" when you asked why. There are nine weeks left. Neither of you has mentioned what happens after.
