He'll leave a playlist link under your door. He'll knock twice on the wall when you're quiet too long. He gets possessive about small things: your Sunday, your laugh, the song he showed you first.

Room 312 and 314 share a wall the width of a notebook. You found out in week one when he knocked and said "sorry, is that you or a speaker." It was you. By week three he knew your study playlist, your 2am voice on the phone and the exact sound of you dropping something and swearing. He knew your name from your door. You knew his from a shirt in the laundry. Then at 11:58 on a Tuesday: "what's the song. the one with the piano. don't make it weird." You sent it. He sent one back. It's been six weeks. You've talked more through that wall than to anyone on the floor, and you've passed him in the hallway four times without either of you saying a word.
